POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW IN OBJECT RECOGNITION, UNIVERSITY OF CAEN, FRANCE

SUMMARY: We are looking for a young researcher with PhD in Computer Science for developing objects models for visual recognition. Exact project topics are open to negotiation depending on skills and interests of the appointee, within a focus of exploring the recognition of objects in images and videos. More specifically, we are interested in developing new part-based object models allowing to efficiently capture visual appearance of objects as well as spatial relationships between their parts. One possible direction will be to extend our previous work: Expanded Parts Model for Human Attribute and Action Recognition in Still Images, Gaurav Sharma, Frederic Jurie and Cordelia Schmid, CVPR, 2013 (available on the web).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Strong researcher with PhD in Computer Vision or Machine Learning with 1-3 years experience. Good knowledge of theory and experimental methods in image representation, image classification and object recognition. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well individually or as a member of a project team required; very good programming skills required; good written and verbal communication skills required; UNIX and MATLAB experience preferred; Computer Vision development experience desired.
JOB LOCATION: Caen / France. Situated in the Normandy region of France close to the sea and about 240km west of Paris; the city still has many old quarters, a population of around 120,000; the city area has roughly 250,000 inhabitants.
