[Comp-neuro] postdoctoral position in human intracranial electrophysiology at Cedars-Sinai & Caltech

Invitation for Applications: Postdoctoral Scholar in human
intracranial electrophysiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center /
California Institute of Technology

Applications are invited to join an NIH-funded research program
investigating the neural mechanisms of learning and decision-making
jointly based at the California Institute of Technology and nearby
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. This position will be part of a newly
established NIMH Conte Center at Caltech, as well as the Cedars-Sinai
Human Electrophysiology program.

The applicant will work on intracranial single-unit recordings from
awake human subjects, investigating questions related to
decision-making, learning and reward
representation. This will include experimental work with patients
(electrophysiology), data analysis and processing, spike-train
analysis, and experimental design. Experiments focus on recordings
from basal ganglia in deep-brain stimulation patients, and from medial
temporal lobe and medial frontal cortex in epilepsy patients. The
applicant will have access to state-of-the art equipment and
facilities and will be part of an established team (Ueli Rutishauser,
Ralph Adolphs, Adam Mamelak), with ample opportunity to learn new
techniques and methods.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in systems, cognitive, or computational
neuroscience. Strong programming (Matlab or similar), data analysis,
statistics and electrophysiology skills are essential. Excellent
written and oral English communication skills are required, including
the ability to communicate with patients and their families, and to
execute complex tasks in the high-pressure environment of the
operating room. Individuals with previous intracranial EEG experience
that wish to expand into single-unit recordings are encouraged to
apply.

The position is available immediately, with a competitive salary
commensurate with prior experience. The initial appointment will be
for one year, with renewal based upon
satisfactory performance and evaluation. Applicants must pass
background screening and health checks to be able to work with
patients.

Interested applicants should send a CV, statement of research
accomplishments and interests, copies of representative publications
and contact information for 2-3 reference letters to: Ueli Rutishauser
at rutishauseru@csmc.edu. All information should be sent in pdf
format. Application review will begin on December 10, 2012 and
continue until the position is filled.

Caltech and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center are Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employers. Women, minorities, veterans,
and disabled persons are encouraged to apply.
