[Comp-neuro] Faculty Positions at American University

Two faculty positions are in the area of gaming (broadly defined). The application deadline for these positions is January 7, 2013.  

The third position is in Computational Neuroscience (again, broadly defined).  The application deadline for this position is December 10.

The Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions in the broadly defined area of gaming. One position will be filled at the assistant professor level, the other at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Areas of the candidates' research expertise may include, but are not limited to: game programming, game engine development, artificial intelligence, graphics, multi-player online environments, human-computer interactions, or mobile game development. Experience with video game research involving educational, social or political issues is desirable as these faculty positions are part a long-term initiative at American University focused on interactive gaming strategies for more effective means of public engagement.

Responsibilities will include: teaching courses across the computer science curriculum from introductory courses to upper-level major electives; establishing an externally-funded research program that can involve student research participation; and service to the department and University. The Department of Computer Science offers BS degrees in computer science and computational sciences, as well as minors in computer science and computational mathematics. The College of Arts and Sciences at American University (Washington, DC) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line, Assistant Professor position, beginning in August 2013, in computational neuroscience (broadly defined, including but not limited to neural networks, simulation, image processing, and bio-nformatics). The appointee's tenure home and departmental affiliation will depend on his or her research background, but we are most interested in applicants who would have at least a joint affiliation with the Department of Computer Science. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline. Teaching and post-doctoral experience are preferred. Responsibilities include: teaching and curriculum development; establishing an internationally recognized research program, preferably one that can involve undergraduate research participation; strengthening connections to neurosciences across campus; and service to the appointee's home department and the wider university.

American University has made other recent hires in neuroscience, is presently seeking to fill other positions in Computer Science, and benefits from proximity to other scientific institutions in the Washington area.
