The Fiete group for computational and theoretical neuroscience at The
University of Texas at Austin is seeking two highly motivated and
accomplished researchers for a postdoctoral fellow position. The initial
appointment is 2 years, with a possibility of extension to a total of 3
years.
The general interests of the group are in neural coding and dynamics, as
they relate to short-term memory, persistent activity, neural
integration, and population coding. In one direction, we are
specifically interested in the nexus of coding theory and dynamical
systems theory, to understand how neural coding and dynamics constrain
each other. Collaborations with the experimentalists and other theorists
within and outside UT Austin are strongly encouraged. A second, related
direction, is to understand how the brain enables computations for
navigation through the world.
Environment: Neuroscience research at Austin spans the range from
molecular to systems to neuroethology and quantitative psychology, and
includes several computational neuroscience groups. The University has
also has strong Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics departments.

Austin is the 11th-most populous US city, one of the fastest-growing of
all American cities, and home to the highest density of high-tech
companies outside of Silicon valley. It's a beautiful place consistently
ranked in the best 10 places to live in the United States (US News &
World Report), known for year-round outdoor sports and athletics and a
vibrant music scene (home to SXSW and ACL).
To Apply: Applicants should have a quantitative background (e.g. Ph.D.
in Physics, Mathematics, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science,
or Engineering) and a demonstrable enthusiasm for neuroscience. A strong
record of research accomplishments is a must. Experience with Python,
Matlab, or C is desirable but not necessary. Please send 1) a CV or
resume, and 2) a statement of research interests to
ilafiete@mail.clm.utexas.edu. Please also 3) arrange for three letters
of recommendation to be sent to the same email address.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, when all requested
information is received. Please apply by August 1 for full consideration.
Regards,
Ila Fiete
