A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University (FIU) to study the neuronal mechanisms of focal epileptogenesis. Project will combine state-of-the-art instrumentation to perform whole head EEG (32 channels) recordings and/or intracranial recordings with dense MEA (128 channels) from rats with focal epilepsy. The successful applicant will be expected to master modern mathematical tools and high-density electrophysiological data to address questions related to this area of research. A PhD or comparable advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Physics or related fields is required. Prior experience of working with biophysical models and data mining is highly desirable. Applicants must be comfortable programming in MATLAB. In particular, this project aims to determine the spatiotemporal profiles underlying interictal epileptic events and to perform inference from these profiles about the structure/function of the neuronal circuits in focal epilepsy. Applicants must have proven proficiency with English language. Interested applicants should submit their Curriculum vitae (CV) to Jorge Riera (email@example.com). FIU is recognized as a Carnegie engaged university. Its colleges and schools offer more than 180 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in fields such as engineering, international relations, architecture, law and medicine. FIU emphasizes research as a major component of its mission and enrolls 48,000 students in two campus and three centers including FIU Downtown on Brickell and the Miami Beach Urban Studios. FIU is a member of the State University System of Florida and is an Equal Opportunity, Equal Access Affirmative Action Employer. For more information about FIU, visit http://www.fiu.edu/.
