We seek a computational neuroscientist/biologist with appreciation of electrophysiological approaches to join a multi-disciplinary team within the Faculty of Life Sciences. The programme of research will focus on defining the contribution of alterations in the brain's circadian clock to mood disorders. This HFSP-funded position is part of a collaboration with Dr. Daniel Forger (USA) and Dr. Toru Takumi (Japan).
Your role will be to analyse and model extracellular electrophysiological and/or bioimaging recordings of the circadian clock neural network and to subsequently advise on the design of physiological experiments to test the model. In particular, you will model and test how the circadian neural network is altered in mouse models of mental health disorders and determine how mood stabilising agents influence and/or correct alterations in such circadian clock neurones. There will also be an opportunity to learn physiological and behavioural techniques. You will work in the laboratories of Prof Hugh Piggins at Manchester.
You will hold a PhD in computational neuroscience/biology and will be able to demonstrate experience of computational approaches and environments. Additional experience of extracellular electrophysiological recording techniques is an advantage, although not essential.
