Dear Colleagues,
I would like to draw your attention to the following open position at
the Research Center Juelich (Forschungszentrum Juelich), situated near
Cologne in Germany:
"With a staff of 5000, Forschungszentrum Juelich – a member of the
Helmholtz Association – is one of the largest interdisciplinary
research centres in Europe and stands for the next generation of key
technologies.
Work with us on the grand challenges in the fields of health, energy &
environment, and information technology, as well as on the many and
varied tasks of research management.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM) investigates the
structure and function of the normal brain and of the brain altered by
neurological or psychiatric diseases. The institute pursues
translational research with the aim of developing new methods for the
prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
The sub-institute „Cognitive Neurology" (INM-3, head: Prof. Dr. Gereon
R. Fink) makes use of behavioural, pharmacological and neuromodulatory
mechanisms to investigate the pathomechanisms of neurological and
neuropsychological deficiencies in order to develop innovative
diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. By means of functional imaging
(PET, MRI), it is possible to combine systemic (neural networks) and
molecular (neurotransmission) approaches by making use of mathematical
models (e.g. dynamic causal modelling) to achieve a comprehensive
understanding of the development of both normal brain functions in
healthy humans (throughout the entire lifetime, i.e. from childhood to
old age) as well as disturbed brain functions in neurological and
psychiatric patients.
INM-3 currently has a vacancy for a
PHYSICIST / MATHEMATICIAN / COMPUTER SCIENTIST
Job Description:
• Analysis of data (fMRI, EEG, MEG) for normal and disturbed
connectivity in the human brain
• Development and application of mathematical models for analysing
neural networks
• Work in an international and multidisciplinary team
• Intensive cooperation with the Department of Neurology and
Neurological Outpatients' Department at the University Hospital
Cologne and the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research
Your Profile:
• University degree with a PhD
• Scientific experience in the field of functional imaging, EEG, MEG
and computational neuroscience
• Experience in applying model-based data analysis, including
experience with dynamic causal modelling, Granger causality etc.
• Good command of written and spoken English
What We Offer:
• Challenging and varied work in an interdisciplinary and international team
• Employment initially for a fixed term of three years
• Part-time employment is possible
• Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the
Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD-Bund)
Forschungszentrum Jülich aims to employ more women in this area and
therefore particularly welcomes applications from women.
We also welcome applications from disabled persons.
We are looking forward to your application, ideally online until June
1st 2013, quoting the reference code
2013-038.
