[Comp-neuro] PhD Position in Bayesian Modeling of Functional and Structural Whole Brain Connectivity

PhD Position in Bayesian Modeling of Functional and Structural Whole Brain Connectivity

A three year PhD position is available at the Section for Cognitive Systems, DTU Informatics, Technical University of Denmark (http://www.imm.dtu.dk/).

Project Description
Functional and diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI and dMRI) have become key non-invasive brain imaging techniques used to quantify the functional and structural connectivity of the brain. While these imaging modalities can be used to derive local connectivity estimates inferring the global patterns of connectivity at the whole brain level poses an important modeling challenge.

The main goal of this project is to develop statistical tools for large scale modeling of functional and structural connectivity. Key components in the project include non-parametric Bayesian modeling of complex networks, high-performance computing and fMRI and dMRI data processing.

The project will be based on current work on non-parametric Bayesian models of brain connectivity and will be part of a larger project "Non-parametric Relational Modeling of Functional and Structural Brain Connectivity" funded by the Lundbeck Foundation (2012-2017) aiming at inferring whole brain connectivity from fMRI and dMRI data.

Requirements
Candidates must have a master degree in engineering, or equivalent academic qualifications. Experience in machine learning, Bayesian modeling, neuroimaging and high-performance computing are definite advantages. Excellent communication skills in English are essential.
