[Comp-neuro] Postdoc Vacancy in Groningen

Postdoc Cognitive Modeling group (1,0 fte) (213212)

Organisation

The Cognitive Modeling group is part of the ALICE research institute of the Department of Artificial Intelligence. The group has a world-class reputation in cognitive modeling, largely based on the ACT-R architecture. The present project is a collaboration with the Department of Psychology, and is part of a larger three-year European FP7 project (Metalogue) headed by the DFKI in Saarbrücken.

Job description

The goal of the Metalogue project is to build an interactive dialogue system that can train people in negotiation. This project is carried out with 9 other European partners. The role of the University of Groningen, and therefore the Postdoc, is to develop cognitive models of negotiation using the ACT-R architecture and its Actransfer extension, in collaboration with Prof. Taatgen and Dr. D.H. van Rijn. The central theme of the tasks involved concerns situations in which multiple partners have to reach an agreement on dividing common resources ("The tragedy of the commons"). The first goal is to build models that can explain behavioral data, but later adapt these models to program agents that humans can interact with, and learning models that track a human learner's progress.

Qualifications

A successful candidate has a PhD degree in Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field, and has sufficient programming skills. Experience in modeling cognition, in particular using the ACT-R architecture, is a clear advantage.

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience from € 2,427 up to a maximum of € 4,462 (CAO-NU salary scale 11 or 12) gross per month for a full-time position. It concerns a temporary position for the period of 32 months.

Starting date: 1 January 2014, or as soon as possible after 1 January.
