GENERAL INFORMATION

The school will focus on the new and rapidly growing areas of neuro-information technologies (neuroinformatics) and neuroengineering, where neuroscience, information technology and engineering merge. The school will be organized and partly funded by the Faculty of Engineering (University of Genova), by the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) and by the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK). The proposed topic for the 2012 is the synergic interaction between artificial elements (at the micro/nano scale) and natural neuronal elements constituting the brain

COURSE CONTENTS

The school will address key topics in the neuroengineering field, with a focus on "micro and nanotechnology for neural systems" and their specific application to develop new devices for brain-machine and neuro-electronic interface and advanced sensory systems. All issues should will be dealt with the biological and the IT/engineering perspective in an interdisciplinary way.

Key topics of the school will include:

  • Novel materials for interacting with cells and systems
  • Nanodevices for neuronal interface applications
  • Neuro-electronic interface
  • Advanced neuro-prosthetics
  • Brain-machine interfaces
