A 2-year research fellow position is available in the international
(Polish-UK) project EvoSN (Evolution of Spiking Neural Networks). This
full-time research post will allow the post holders to pursue research
at the intersection of several fields of biology
(computational/systems neuroscience, theoretical/evolutionary/systems
biology) with computer science (biologically-inspired computation,
evolutionary algorithms, design of complex systems) and robotics.
EvoSN will use a software platform for the evolution of regulatory
networks created by Prof. Borys Wrobel and his collaborators at the Adam
Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, to answer fundamental
questions about the computational properties of spiking neural
networks, formulated thanks to the extensive experience in the field
of computational neuroscience of the group led by Dr. Volker Steuber at the
University of Hertfordshire. The post holders will spend a substantial
part of their fellowship in the UK and Poland, but may include short
stays at other collaborating institutions. The position is to be
filled as soon as possible. The period of appointment is 2 years (with
intermediary evaluations), and is potentially extensible.
Applicants for the position should have a strong postgraduate degree
(MSc or PhD) in a quantitative research-oriented discipline, examples
would be computer science, mathematics or physics. They should have a
strong computational background; programming skills (C++ or Java,
Python, Matlab) are essential to the position. Further requirements
for candidates include proficiency in English, both in writing and in
speaking (English is the working language in both labs). The salary
will correspond to the levels established for the University of
Hertfordshire and will be based on experience.
Further enquiries should be directed to Borys Wróbel (wrobel@evosys.org)._______________________________________________
