the lab of Arthur Houweling (http://www.neuro.nl/research.php) at the
Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam. The postdoc will work on a
project funded by the Computational Life Sciences program of the
Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). The project is
a close collaboration between experimental neuroscientists in the
Houweling lab and computational neuroscientists in the group of Prof.
Paul Tiesinga (Radboud University Nijmegen, http://www.ru.nl/donders).
The overall goal of the project is to study the mechanism by which the
brain perceives the action potentials of a single neuron, using a
combined experimental, computational and theoretical approach. In
experiments in the Houweling lab, two-photon population calcium imaging
will be used to monitor the spike discharges of layer 2/3 cortical
neurons during a single-cell stimulation detection task. The postdoc
will build a computational model in order to understand the measured
neural activity patterns in terms of biophysical properties of neurons
and synapses, and the statistics of the neural connectivity pattern.
He/she will also assist in developing and applying new data analysis
methods.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a quantitative science
(physics, mathematics, computer science, computational neuroscience
etc.), excellent programming skills in C and Matlab, and working
knowledge of constructing and implementing computational models.
Knowledge of neuroscience is highly desirable. The candidate will need
to be able to collaborate in a multidisciplinary setting.
